Basketball Rule and Regulations

Rosters

Rosters are not due until play begins for each tournament. This allows the coach pre-season flexibility.
Rosters and proof of age/grade should be in the coach's possession for every player listed in the official scorebook. 15 player maximum on rosters. This proof shall only be provided if requested by the Tournament Director.

Format

Pool Play to Single Elimination, or determined by number of teams entered and gym availability.

Age Determination

Shall be per USBA, AAU and YBOA guide lines, including only three grade exceptions.

Coaches

A maximum of three (3) non-players shall be on the bench. This can be any combination of scorekeepers and coaches. The Coach is responsible for his bench and the actions of his fans.

Team Scorekeeper

The team's scorekeeper SHALL NOT sit with or at the scorer table. If there is a question relative to score or fouls a coach shall politely approach the table and ask for a horn at the next dead ball.
The game officials shall have final authority per National High School Federation rules and practices.

Length of Games

Dependent on tournament format and age.

Overtimes

Shall be 3 minutes for the first and 1 minute for each OT thereafter.

Game Ball

Ages 9-12 use a 28.5 ball. All others use a regulation ball. Home team shall supply the game ball unless otherwise agreed by the coaches.

Time-outs

Dependent on tournament format. Coaches should check "Tournament Rules" handout when registering.

Officials

Shall be Big Dawg certified or VHSL or National Federation sanctioned.

Running Clock Rule

At the time a team gains a thirty (30) point or more lead the clock will NOT stop until the trailing team decreases the point difference to twenty (20) or less. This means the clock WILL run through free throws. The clock WILL STOP for time-outs.
